Giving: it’s about more than just money.

There are many verses in the Bible about money and giving, but to sum them up, Jesus wants to be Lord of your whole life including your money and “earthly treasure”.

Why does God want your money? Does God need money?

God doesn’t need money and he doesn’t need your money to get His work done!
(Jesus pulled money out of a fish’s mouth to pay taxes for his disciples). So why would God require you to give?

It’s easy to say, “Jesus is my Lord”, but God’s not fooled by empty words (and other real believers aren’t either).

God requires us to give to the Church (where you receive teaching support etc.) and to others in need. WHY?

2 main reasons…
  • One, we MUST walk in FAITH. Not a step or two, but this should be continual…walk.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Heb 11:6
  • Two, God demands a portion. He’s not asking. But it is to bless US.
"Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, `How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse--the whole nation of you--because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty. "Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the LORD Almighty.

Malachi 3:8-12
One last requirement for giving…. God wants us to do it cheerfully with grattitude.

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Cor 9:7

If you really know Him, you know that you owe Him everything already, so although this may be scary at first, He is worthy.

He is also faithful and keeps His promises.
