What is God's Vision for my Life?

Where there is no vision, the people perish : but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
                                                                                  Proverbs 29:18

So how important is it to have a vision? According to God's word the people will perish without one, so it must be a pretty big deal. I feel like there is more to this verse than what meets the eye however, for if we were to just generalize what it means to have a vision and believe any vision will do, then I think we are missing it.

For example: Hitler had a vision, but it was an evil one.

So it becomes important that our vision is good, but what is the very best vision we could have? The latter half of the above verse tells of this. :...but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." Another way to say this would be, "whoever trusts the Lord will be happy." So the very best vision we can have is one given from God.

Our vision determines our direction. Since we are being constantly exposed to the visions of the world (lust, greed, promiscuity, fame, etc.), it is important that we keep our eyes on Jesus, and we focus on His vision for our life. Most Christians go the way of the world by default, so we can never stop looking to Jesus. Godly direction requires Godly Vision(s).

What is God's vision for my life?

I can give you the basics. God first of all wants you to be Born Again for this is what matters most to Him.
God wants you to obey His word (the Bible) and apply it to your life, so that you can show His love to other people. Just think how awesome it would be to be a reflection of Jesus to someone in need.

God wants your time. Not because He's a cruel schoolmaster keeping you from your summer break, but because He loves you and wants to bless you. As an earthly parent you can understand this.

God wants you to spend time with Him in prayer, which means speaking to Him, but also listening for Him, waiting on Him, and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you in your daily walk with Him.

In short, God wants all of you. He wants a total surrender to Him, so that He can blow your mind!

These are the basics, but now comes the adventure...

I can't tell you the specific plans God has for your life, but as you walk with Him, He will reveal it to you. This can be all at once, which is seldom, but for most people and I know for me it has been a little at a time- a piece to the puzzle as I need it. Then after a while God allows you to step back away from the many puzzle pieces and see the picture that is coming together.

As you look into life's rear view mirror you also see things you didn't notice before and realize God was doing something here or there. You will see that God was true to His word when He said, "I will never leave nor forsake you." Ask Him today, "God, what is Your vision for my life?"
