Keeping Your Spiritual Cutting Edge - Part 4

How do we get that cutting edge back? How can we once again become useful in God's kingdom? As a new Christian maybe you were full of zeal for the things of God, but now you have become jaded, you've learned that life with Jesus isn't always a day at the spa... in fact you've learned the truth.

You are at WAR! Suddenly after taking shot after shot you've laid your weapon down and curled up in a ditch seeking cover. Overheard you hear an incoming mortar shell called Clumsy Ministry... BOOM! A Christian said or did something that was hurtful and you really looked up to that person as a mentor. Another incoming mortar shell called Legalism comes screaming through the air.... BOOM! You were told that your not supposed to wear the clothes you're wearing.... The mortar shells keep coming. Some are from the enemy, but it also occurs to you that the enemy has gotten into our ranks and some of the shells landing around you are sadly... Friendly Fire. You feel like you are defenseless. You've lost your Spiritual Cutting Edge.

Anyone can lose it, but how do we retrieve it again? Think back to the zeal you had as a baby Christian …..
How is your Spiritual life now? Is there any growth? Any progress in your Spiritual life?

Let's read about one guy losing his cutting edge.

2 Kings 6:1-7 Elisha and the Syrians
1 And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, "See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us. 2Please, let us go to the Jordan, and let every man take a beam from there, and let us make there a place where we may dwell." So he answered, "Go."
3Then one said, "Please consent to go with your servants."
And he answered, "I will go." 4So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. 5But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, "Alas, master! For it was borrowed."
6So the man of God said, "Where did it fall?" And he showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. 7Therefore he said, "Pick it up for yourself." So he reached out his hand and took it.

Now let's get that Edge back:

It would be senseless to keep chopping without an ax head. This would be going through the motions and accomplishing nothing. How often though do we do just that as Christians? Many will go to church, sing along with the others, and accomplishing nothing for the Kingdom of God. It is time to stop swinging the ax handle and admit that you've lost your edge! When the men lost their ax head what was the first thing they did?

In verse 5 we read "Then they went to the Prophet of God." In Elisha's day that is what you did. What is great for us as Christians is we have direct access to the Father! When you lose your Spiritual Cutting Edge go to the Master.

Ax heads don't just fall off if someone is taking care of their tools. Was it something you did? Was it something you didn't do? If so, Admit it!  If Satan has gained ground in your life it is because you gave it to him, so take the responsibility for it! Then it is time to look back... where did it fall? Where was it you lost your edge? Go right back to that place. Was it when somebody hurt you? Maybe it was when you stopped those morning devotions?

When the ax head comes off you are holding nothing but a piece of wood. It was a piece of wood, although larger, that our Lord died on. What Jesus Christ did on the cross was enough to restore you completely. Repent and allow Him to restore you with your Spiritual Cutting Edge. Don't wallow in condemnation. Did you see the miracle? Iron floats? With Christ you can do all things, and if you go to Him then He will do His part.

Now look at verse 7:
7Therefore he said, "Pick it up for yourself." So he reached out his hand and took it.

We must reach out and receive it! Stop swinging the handle, trace back to find where you lost that edge, go to the Father, REPENT, take responsibility, and receive you edge back!

Thank you & God Bless!
